Officers reported they were alerted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then located numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
